[Updated] Google to Announce GoogleOS – GooglePhone in the Future?

Google is alleged to announce a Google OS (Operating System) for mobile devices on Monday’s press conference. According to sources, this software will be “a complete mobile-phone software stack”.

Gizmodo and CNET are convinced that this OS will be Open Source based, a-la Ubuntu Mobile Edition.

I think this Google OS is a real threat to potential competitors HTC, Nokia, and Apple’s iPhone. Based on Google’s past, and reputation for simple, powerful, expandable systems that are simple to use, some of the more closed platforms out there may face issues matching.

Update: Perhaps another amazing feature would be an automatic switch to a VOIP service (Like Google Talk) in supported WiFi areas, to reduce cost, in exchange for a small advertisment at the beginning (so advertisment, then the call would start)

Google would suit the mobile device market so well, purely on the basis that Google’s mission is “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”. Text messages, phone calls, web pages, and other media are all information.
