The latest coming in from Apple is that there is a new iTunes iteration, 7.5.

“What’s new in iTunes 7.5
iTunes 7.5 features the ability to activate iPhone wherever service is offered and support for Phase, a new interactive music game designed exclusively for iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod (fifth generation). This release also includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance.”
[Update] I have now installed iTunes 7.5 myself, and it appears to be more or less the same. I imagine, that until Apple unveil Phase, iTunes 7.5 will be more responsive and stable, but more or less unnoticeable changed from previous iterations.
