If you use an image editor like Photoshop or the GIMP, then you can now take these features with you, with SplashUp.
SplashUp is a new web 2.0 online advanced image editor that supports great features like Layers and Blend Modes, Filters, Layer Effects, Brushes, Text Editing, and Webcam support.
Hit the link for more info, screenshots, and the link to sign up or try out the service.
Opening in a new window, the SplashUp interface is a slick grey, and looks decidedly familiar.

[Above:] When you put SplashUp and Photoshop together, you start to see a startling amount of similarity. Whilst SplashUp is web-based, and in theory slightly more limited, that web-based environment is a real advantage over Photoshop. Not only is Photoshop CS3 $649 new from Adobe vs. SplashUp’s $0 price, but Photoshop isn’t readily available. Adobe is preparing to commercially release a cut down version of Photoshop for mainstream use.
This all in mind, there’s always a bigger fish, after all Adobe now own Macromedia, may an online conquest be on the horizon for this San Jose software giant? The tools in SplashUp are really helpful, sporting:
- Warp
- Crop
- Text manipulation
- Layers (The triumph of SplashUp)
- Fill
- EyeDropper
- Movable panels
- A colour slider pane
- Full screen mode
I highly recommend SplashUp, and you can sign up for SplashUp here:
